700R4 side cover

I have a leak on that cover on the left side of my tranny..how does it come off? will it leak bad when its off? al

Are you talking about the servo piston cover? About 3.5 inch diameter? if so , the cover must be depressed about 1/2inch there is a big ring in a grve in the case. To remove the ring put a small blade screwdriver in the case cutout and pry inward. The ring will pop out as well as the cover. You can then replace the O ring

this video mainly explains getting the cover off. Not sure how he got lucky about not having to press in the cover while getting the lock ring out,but it might be possible.

Your leak is the oring.

edit : you sure its not the cooler line, dripping down onto the cover?

You posted your question in the first gen S-series forum but you have you have a 92 full size. To get the best info post as much info regarding your vehicle as possible (engine, trans, year, ect). That being said the procedure for removing the servo cover is still the same on the 700r4. The snap ring is still there and usually not easy to identify but get yourself a can of brake cleaner and blast away at the servo cover and watch it appear! It may still prove to be a challenge to get the cover off once the snap ring is off but it will come with some patience.

Edit: does the cover you are talking about even look like the one in the video? If not you should tell us so we don't continue to give you info if its not correct info for your situation.
