'75 k5 electrical question
 

I recently purchased a cut-off switch which is installed on the ground side of the battery. After installing the switch, it didn't work and the reason was a small wire running from the original cable around the underside of the battery. This cable is screwed into the front of the truck, just above the headlight, and from this connection, another cable runs down below the battery and is screwed into the frame. After disconnecting these, the switch works perfectly, however, what are these ground connections for? Do I still need them? Should I provide a ground to these locations from my switch? Thanks for any and all help.

you want to KEEP all those grounds.. and route them into your switch!!!!

a good rule of thumb is when in doubt ground it out.. meaning you can never have to many grounds!!!! trucks will act funny without proper grounding!!! i have seen the electrical gremlins work in wierd ways.. and the solution was poor grounds. this being said.. picture electricity as a circle... your feeding it with all those power wires.. and your ground is your return.. you start eliminating grounds.. and your return loop has to work EXTRA hard to carry the loads.

i am in no way a electrician or anything like that.. but thats my outlook on them grounds..

those grounds have a purpouse, otherwise they would have never put them their to stasrt with. never eliminate stock grounds.

Just cut the wire to the distributor. That's how mine are set up. That way the truck ill crank and not start and hopefully the theif will think the truck is broke and move on

He means that he put a switch in the main power wire to the coil, thereby disabling the engine.

That's a great idea. Thanks. The only problem is I can see myself at 5:30 in the morning trying to figure out why my truck won't start. Losing one's mind is the damnedest thing.
