78 k5 4x4 question
 

hey i just bought a new u -joint and connected my 4 wheel drive it was disconnected when i bought it i have a shifter on the floor and it says at the top 2hi going down 2 lo neutroul 4 lo 4 hi and its really stifff and hard to figure out..im not exactly sure how to shift into 4x4 ive been rolling in neutral and shifting and when i brought it in the mud it seemed to work is there a way like rolling in reverese to get the thing outta 4x4 is there a certain way you have to engage that **** on a 78 i know these older trucks have theyr quirks

can try going underneith and lubing it. i bought a old plow truck for parts that never left 4x4. had to spray the heck out of and push the lever back and forth using my foot it was so rusty. but in theroy it should go easily. doesnt hurt to go in reverse for a second when engaging or disengaging the hubs to make sure they are locked by the transfercase should go right in
