'85 k5 replace auto with manual lockouts
I've purchased Warn standard lockouts to replace my automatics. Before I start, just wondering if there's any tricks or advice you all can tell me so I don't end up needing something while it's apart because this is the only vehicle I drive. Any special tools needed? Is there a good guide for the procedure someplace? Stock '85 k5. Thanks much

youll neen torque bits or allen wrenches depending on what set up the manual hubs use. other then that just screw drivers, pliers, and maybe some picks to dig out some ofthose snap rings. snapring pliers will help too. you can also repack the bearings while your in there if your up for a littlebit more work.

Don't know if its 100% necessary or not but I bought a special socket that that fits a slotted nut that holds part of the assembly inside the hub. Its been years since I changed over to manual hubs or repacked bearings in my K5 (junked it last year but hadn't driven it in years).
Auto Zone or Advance Auto sells that socket. Similar to the one in the link below but with 4 tabs sticking down to engage the slots in the nut. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...ier=110264_0_0_ |

OK, got the drivers side replaced, no problem. But looks like I do need that socket for the passenger side, because I don't have the required 1/8" play when I put in the new Warn manual lockout. Instructions say to remove the wheel bearing lock nut and reposition the washer behind it. I read somewhere that someone did this, and they STILL didn't have the 1/8" float, and there was something else to do. ?Can anyone tell me what that might be? Thanks in advance
