Disengaging 4WD

I have a quick question as I am 4x4 challenged.

The auto locking hubs failed in my 84 K5 Blazer, and I replaced them with Superwinch manual locking hubs.

Here's my question: When I disengage the 4WD, do I still have to back up the 10 ft like I did with the OEM hubs?

Thanks and my apologies for the dumb question.

You should not have to back up.

You don't have to but they hubs unlock quicker if you back up a few feet, same with locking them.

I don't know about ten feet but I always did for a few inches just to get the tension off especially when they start to get old and dirty inside
