EGR issues? code 32

I have a 1992 K Blazer that my son and I are fixing up for his ride.
160K miles, but good compression, new head gaskets, valve seals, plugs, wires, cap rotor, timing correct. Looks like a good solid 350

We're getting code 32 after road driving, not so much on short trips.

We are having trouble with rough cold start also. Loads up but cleans out if you rev it some. Feels a little rough at idle when in gear too. Otherwise runs pretty good.

I was thinking that the injectors may be leaking gas when sitting causing the rough start, does this sound logical?
Or maybe everything is related to the EGR issue that I need to troubleshoot further.

Anybody have any ideas about the best way to go? set of injectors are expensive and so is the EGR and don't want to spend money to replace what I don't need.

Thanks, We're new to this forum.

Your EGR is probably stuck open. Take it off the engine (buy a new gasket at parts store for $1). 99% of the time you can clean it, no need to buy a new one (they're expensive).

If you can blow through the valve, it's open. If you can't move the valve b y pushing on the diaphragm, or can't blow through it after moving the diaphragm, its' clogged.

Carb cleaner and toothbrush should be enough to clean it up.

You should also consider doing a TBI kit ($30 or so) and clean up the EGR passages as best you can.

Update

Just replaced the EGR. Port was clean from where we had just done head gasket job. It was not stuck open, but wouldn't hold vaccuum so went ahead and replaced it last night. Will test drive today, but assume this is the reason for the code 32. 79$ at advance, but bought it on line and used coupon to save $30 and take some of the sting away.

I think I'll take your advice on the TBI kit. Still seems to be loading up. Cleans out fairly quick after start, but runs rough on cold start.

Thanks Helo for the feedback and advice. Will update later.
