Front Drive Shaft
 

I have an 89 full size k5. With a 6 inch lift. I bought it 2 weeks ago and already having problesms. i got under it today with some help workin on the 4wd and finaly came to the conclusion that the front drive shaft was shot... once we dropped it we found that the internal teeth on the shaft ar completely ground down... THERES NO TEETH AT ALL!:eek: so heres the deal... I need to know if i can use a stock driveshaft on it or will i need to longer one and if so where can i get one for a decent price.:confused:

You need a longer front driveshaft for a 6" suspension lift. I do not think that you could get away with only a spacer at the transfer case. If the stock driveshaft was used, that is likely why the shaft wore out.

Since most lifts end up different once installed on these trucks, you really should measure yoke centerline to yoke centerline both at full droop and full compression to figure your length extended and compressed respectively. Then find yourself a local driveline shop and have them either extend a stock shaft or fab up a new replacement.

nice thread redneck....i was having kinda the same problem i have the same size life and had the same stock driveshaft but it workd fine in 4 wheel drive and i was wanting to get it longer..i did what swartlkk said with the measuring and i needed 2 and half inches...i got a new one fabbed up for 200 bucks and i have no worries now...
