fuel smell
 

Ok, I have a 1994 full size blazer with the TBI 5.7 and I am noticing a strong raw fuel smell when I turn the truck off. I have smelled the gas after opening the driver door, I have smelled it on the passenger side, but the one place that never fails to have the smell is in the front right corner of the truck. I have checked my vapor canister (which is on the driver side though) and air passes through it just fine, so not sure if it is bad or not. Obviously with air flowing around my truck the scent could be hard to pinpoint.


any recommendations on methods to try and locate the source of the fuel smell, and are there any common fuel smell emitting issues with this particular vehicle that I should check out first? it currently has 108,000 miles if that means anything.


This is my project ive been working on for a while now, would really suck to have it catch on fire or something lol.

Check the fuel lines going to the front

alright ill check em out here next chance I get. Is there anything special I should do, like run the engine first, or just turn the key on to prime the pump or something before I start looking around for fuel on the outside of the lines?

didn't see any indication of fuel leaking the lines running along the frame, nor the fuel filter. I looked for where I might see runs of where fuel could have dripped or leaked. I keep feeling like it is something to do with the TBI but all that's there is 2 injectors and a pressure regulator right? I replaced the regulator and nothing changed, I just ran the truck without the air filter and turned it off and such and didn't see any fuel dripping out of the injectors. I notice the fuel smell down in the front right corner by the battery. If there was a fuel smell in the TBI system, it makes sense I would smell it by the battery cause the air intake breathes from that fender. So it would also make sense I could smell fumes from the throttle body, cause they travel through the intake plumbing and exit near the battery.

I ran the truck for a few seconds watching the injector spray pattern and it looked like a spray combined with a drip, they both looked the same and consistent. I don't want to just go buy new injectors if mine are not bad, but I don't know where to look next. When I first removed the air filter cover I noticed the fuel smell even more.
