Ign. isues, I think, please help 87-K5
 

Greetings, reader/ visiter, now a member.

I have an 87 K5 w/350tbi it's been going through a rebuild now for ofer a year and getting closer to being drivable but, yesterday I took it down the road (about 1/2 mi.) mianly to try and unstick the frnt brakes from sitting so long. other than reaching 180* at my garage this is the hotest it has been. anyway I shut it down only to find it wouldn't start after about an hour, the batt even seemed unusually low. I charged it up and it just cranks - no starting and no fuel pump sounds. I checked fuses ect and can find nothing. any ideas? btw the oil pressure guage was fluctuating on the ride if the sender go's out on this truck will the ecm shut down the pump and spark? edit; It's not ign. its for sure fuel...none spraying and no sound.

This may not be your entire problem but is the distibutor loose. It may turned on its own and thats why it wont turn over good. You may have also lost a connection at the starter where the vehicle acc. including ecm gets its power from. That would explain not turning over good and no fuel. If its turning over good then maybe pour a lttle fuel down the TB and see if it will fire off. If so then Ecm may be ok and it could just be fuel pump

Thanks, can you tell me where is the fuel relay? and or where is a place for me to test power to the pump as there is no fuse I really want to be sure before I drop the tank if you know what I mean. Thanks, David

The relay is on the firewall. There should also be a fuel pump prime connector somewhere near the relay if I remember correctly. The prime connector, when connected to a +12V source, will directly power the fuel pump.
