manual shift 88' k5

how's it going, new guy to the board and I recently came into a 1988 chevy k5 blazer custom edition (or whatever) manual shift 4 speed. Can anyone give me any info on these being that I've been told that they aren't that easy to come by and need to know what I have to look forward to. thanx

I wouldn't say there is anything all that rare or hard to come by. Custom Deluxe was the base trim level for the Blazer in your year. The Silverado trim level was the more expensive one with more standard features.

I would say it is somewhat rare with the 4 speed manual tranny. Don't believe I've ever seen one in a K5 from the late '80s and into the '90s.

I have an 89 k5 with the manual 3-speed plus low (4 total) They are hard to come by. They are an excellent trans. I had an 86 truck with the same trans in it and i had 38" on it. Never gave me a problem. I blew spider gears in the rear end all the time but the trans never quit.

I have the same tranny in my 84. It's a muncie SM 465, first gear I believe is 6.65:1 but someone correct me if I'm wrong. They are really freaking tough. Hope this helps. BTW I have only come across one or two others besides mine.
