need a new power steering gear box
only ones i can find online are 2...and one is called high performance...they are $190 and $245...does anyone have a recommendation?
opps...i had to edit b/c i did not include my vehicle 1977 K5 th350 454 201 4wd |
The high performance box is likely a little bit quicker ratio. However, it would help to see what it is you are referring to. Do you have a link?
RockAuto.com only shows one steering gear box for 4wd (although from a few different manufacturers). Why do you think you need a new steering gear box? There are adjustments that can be made. If you have a sloppy steering wheel, it is likely the rag joint and not the gear box. |
thanks for the quick reply
man i hope you are getting paid for what you do...yo are always on the ball answering people's posts...anyways...I have read other threads where people suggest getting second opinions when a mechanic tells them they need a new gear box...it is the arm that comes out of the gear box from beneath that connects to the drag line that has some play in it. I live in a podunk town with suspect mechanics...while i would be able to replace a gear box myself, i don't know if i could tinker with one. If you would could you give me some things to look at and maybe adjust before i can concur i need a new gear box?

As I said, high performance when regarding a steering gear box typically refers to a quicker ratio. This would mean less turns of the steering wheel to go lock to lock with the steering. You can try calling their tech line for clarification.
IMO, a quicker ratio box would not be all that beneficial in an offroad truck. |
