Transfer case info

I have a 1990 GMC Jimmy with a 350 and the 700R4. The transfer case is leaking and I can get the tail shaft extension off easy enough(four bolts). The housing it is bolted to will not come off, even when all the bolts are removed. Is there a C clip or something that prevents dis-assembly? Also, what is the model and serial number of this transfer case?

There will be a c-clip on the tailshaft which holds the rear bearing and the speedometer housing in place.

The model number for the transfer case should be on a small circular disc on the back of the transfer case. It will either be an NP241 or NP208.

C clip

Thanks, I guess it will be readily apparent and not too hard to find. I don't know why I couldn't find it the first time? At least now I know what to look for. Does anyone have a photo of the clip or spline? Thanks

Run a google search for "NP241 Slip Yoke Eliminator". You should find instructions on the disassembly of the t-case to swap the rear output shaft which includes what you are asking about. I can't remember if there was a video with it or not.

tailshaft housing

I need a new tailshaft housing for the NP 241C. Is this a different part number than for a NP241. Mine has a part number of C-16969, and mine is cracked and leaking. Can anyone help?

tailshaft housings

There seems to be a lot of different part numbers for these housings. They all look similar, but they are different. I will probably have to have mine welded, because I don't think I am going to be able to find the one I need.

tailshaft housing

I can't find one with the part number I need for a Blazer/Jimmy, so I removed mine and I will get it welded and repaired. The C clip was a real pain to remove. I bet the technicians have a special tool for it. I managed to get it off without recking anything, but it took about an hour. :icon_mad:
