Transmission Filler tube 72 blazer
My blazer is leaking tranny fluid like a hobo after a long night of drinking. The O-ring on the trans filler tube was replaced but I am wondering if the dipstick is not the right one. I think it may be too short, the tube might be too long, thus me adding WAY more than I should have. The gasket on the pan was replaced about 7 months ago.
How long should the dipstick be on a small block 350? Further thoughts? Thank you in advance. |
Dipstick on the engine or transmission? Guessing your talking about the transmission...
|
yes. transmission
on mine the transmission filler tube is all the way in the back of the engine. When I changed the o-ring on the tube, I kept checking the dipstick while adding a little more and nothing was registering after 2 quarts or so Then I finally got a reading. Does this make sense?

The engine needs to be on and warm when checking the transmission level. Did you have it running?
|
Thank you for your response.
uh...I think I ran it for about a minute or so. Should I wait for about 5? |
Should be up to operating temp.
Where is the leak coming from? is it coming from the dipstick tube? Did you double check that is is installed correctly, all the way seated? |
According to someone who looked at it, they said it might be the bolt near the filler tube. I am almost certain it was installed all the way seated then sealed around it. Someone said that the bolt needs to be tight but you can tighten it too much and then f up the something or the other. Still learning so sorry for the vagueness. Don't know the correct terminology.
