wont stay running

i have a 79 blazer i picked up which was running when i got. its been about a month since its last start up. it turns over but wont start. i know its gettin spark. anyways i pour sum fuel down the carb, which is an edelbrock carb, n shell run till it burns that up... can anyone help me how to tune? im pretty sure thats what i need to do... thanks

Check your fuel pump ..make sure its pumping gas up to the carb

i can see that fuel isnt getting to the carb. when i pour fuel to the carb... it jus burns that. i have a clear fuel filter that is is off the line to the carb.. when its running it sucks the fuel but once is shuts off the fuel that jus was sucked down comes back to the filter... it never reaches the carb... could it be that the carb isnt sucking it down or jus a bad fuel pump... sorry first carb vehicle...

Also be sure to check where the fuel line goes into the carb for a clogged filter.

edelbrock carbs are famous for the needle valve for the float sticking open or closed if they have sat a while..My 79 does it once in a while...

To test your mechanical fuel pump Remove the fuel line from the carb. and crank the engine over (make sure you have a container to catch any fuel) if you are getting fuel up to this point it's not your pump...make sure your filters aren't plugged too.

well i replaced the fuel pump jus on the safe side nd it still isnt getting fuel. from crankin the motor over it only got about not even a teaspoon in the filter that i can see.

Did you make sure the push rod that operates the fuel pump plunger from the cam isnt sticking in the bore? When you install it put some grease on the push rod to keep it from sliding back out when you install the pump. Make sure there isn't anything in the fuel line up to the filter..Try blowing back through it..You might have to check to make sure your fuel line going back to the tank isnt broken of clogged.

well i took the line to the carb off to see if it was pumping gas and it is... i blew the line out with air to make sure nothing was cloggin it. but it still wont get gas to the liine to the carb... that mean that its something wrong with one of the lines to the gas tank?

unscrew the line that comes out the pump that goes to the carb..is it getting gas? if it is, reconnect it and unscrew it from the carb and check it for gas there, if it gets gas there too then make sure that the little filter (if it's there) isn't plugged..remove it if it is and reconnect the gas line. if the carb then doesnt get gas the float valve is stuck.

You need a new Edelbrock Carburator

You can send the carb back to Edelbrock, I think they have lifetime warranties to their products or buy a new Edelbrock carb from Kragen. You're old carb is not functioning properly. Good luck.
