Default 1985 K10 wont stay on..

Truck was running ok but was overheating and tried changing out my thermostat.
After i installed it i tried to turn the truck on and it would crank but as soon as i let go of the pedal it would turn off. After a couple times it eventually stopped cranking.
I got the starter tested and found out it needed to be rebuilt.
Got it rebuilt. Installed it. Went to turn the truck on, and the same thing happened again. Cranked a few times, and after about 5 tries it wouldnt even do it.

So now, i try to turn it on and it wont even crank. Lights and everything else works.
Connections to starter are good. Brand new battery. Fusible links are good. I do hear a repetitive clicking when i turn the key.
What is causing the truck to not stay on? It wont even stay on after warming it up for a few minutes. As soon as i let go of the accelerater, poof it shuts down.
Any help/advice would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

something simple to check. check your grounds going to the engine and to the body. the starter could be getting a bad ground due to a crappy wire grounding the engine block

So you changed the thermostat and you could get your truck to start but had to keep your foot on the accelerator, right? As soon as you took your foot off the pedal it would die. But it would run as long as you kept your foot on the pedal? Sounds like there is a carburetor issue, perhaps choke adjustment?

Could be a brand new battery but continued cranking will drain the charge... If you've got a multi-meter check out the battery voltage. A brand new battery will probably only crank an engine continuously for 60 seconds or so... That is a big amp load to turn that starter and drains a battery quick.

You might also check out one of these, simple way to see if your battery is up to snuff.
