Question GMC v1500 4x4 'Jimmy' - Full Size General Questions

Hello. First, I hope i'm posting in the correct room. If not, I apologize. I figured it was relative to mainly electronics / electric.

1) Can someone tell me why it is so difficult to locate even photos of a 1989 v1500 4x4 Full-Size 'Jimmy'? Was it limited production? I purchased one used from a city department for snow removal. Not sure why I keep running into the K5-series or Sierra, etc. But the full-size 4x4 is hard to find any info on.

2) Mainly what I need is the measurements of the roof of this particular full-size SUV. I am planning to make use of it's (still attached) snow plow for some side money this winter and need to know the roof size for a lighting system; lightbar.

I have called the three major lightbar manufacturers and they all told me the same thing,... that their books only went back to early 90's. Thus, i'm wondering what size lightbar I need to purchase for amber lighting and worklights. Full size lightbars come in 47" - 48" - 50" - 52" - - - up to 60". One 'guess' a manufacturer gave me was the 48". However, I want proper fit. So that it doesn't hang over. And it's not short.

Possibly a fireman or police officer may recall this info from a past vehicle they used or maybe still use. I have looked all over the net and have no idea where else to look. Thus, I'm coming to a specialty forum and hoping someone can give me absolute info on which size bar to purchase.

I am heading to pick it up and shipping is nearly the cost of the lightbar. Thus, I have found a seller on way back from picking up / driving back this SUV but they weren't certain which size bar to suggest. As I want it correctly sized. I have found the CODE 3 - MX7000 has everything I need. Alley lights, front / takedown lights, back work lights and safety flashing lights. Mainly powerful work lights in all directions. If someone could help me by replying or maybe posting a location where I could obtain this info. I've spent about 9 days looking online for this specific info of roof dimensions, photos, or even current owners that could just go out into their driveway and measure their roof for me.

Thanks so much for taking the time to help me out!

MrJP is an unknown quantity at this point

If memory serves me, most of the truck was interchangeable with the full size Blazer during those years. I don't know the specifics, but I would believe a light bar for a C series Blazer of the same year would work.

BTW, is your's the half convertable, or solid rear top?

Edit: Just checked LMC truck and I was correct.

Thumbs up Thx for C-Series Compatibility Info,...

Thanks for reply. It has the removable section for front to rear 3/4 (most of top). But top has never been off for the city plowing use.

Thx for info! I will then take a look for C-Series. And measure accordingly.

PS - My neighbor has a 1987 GMC C-Series. It appears full-size is flat-stake-bed modified pickup and not the SUV model. Mine is full-size as well. His pickup cab seems full-size and his is a C-Series. However, he told me the C-Series changed design in 1988. If that is true, does that mean I have to find a very specific 1989 full-size and measure a C-Series only from 1989? This has become a real booger. Thanks so much for any info you can assist with.

Or if one of you or a neighbor might have the measurements you could go tape-measure for me,... i'd be very thankful as I continue to search with your suggestions. I'll await your replies. If not specific to 1989,... then can I simply measure my neighbor's stake-bed 1987 full-size C-Series PickUp roof for same size?

HIS : 1987 GMC C-Series PickUp 2x4 Full-Size (full-size pickup, not SUV)
MINE : 1989 GMC v1500 'Jimmy' SUV 4x4 Full-Size (with removable top)
