Default Leaking trans. Fluid from bell housing??

I noticed the other day that trans. fluid was leaking from bell housing. Pretty bad leak, came on all of a sudden. I talked to a mechanic over the phone, he says blown front or rear pump seal. Wants around $700.00 to complete the job. He said that $650 was for labor alone. I'm a pretty good mechanic and am really starting to get to know my blazer, but never actually pulled a trans. before. I figure a couple floor jacks, freinds, and days I should be able to save some serious money right?? Any advice? Thx you guys are awesome!! Oh yeah, I have the hydra-matic 700 R4 trans.

It wouldn't be too difficult to remove the transmission and take it to him. It depends on the actual source of the leak as to how difficult it would be to fix.
