Default 1975 lime green, 4sp, 4L-2H-4H transfer case

Just took ownership. About 30,000 miles. In storage a long LONG time.

Changed out plugs and oil, replaced battery. Runs great. In front of the gearbox / transmission there is a metal plate that is loose. Almost like a gasket for the front bell of the tranny. Maybe 10 inches in diameter. Strange.

Other recommendations (?) for initial maintenance and ... what are the lubrication requirements for the dif and transfer case. New to Blazers. It climbs like a goat. Amazing.

New to the site and my apologies in advance for no-luck searching the FAQ's for about 30 minutes for my answer. Shucks.

My thanks to the Blazer brain trust,

Nelson

If you have 2HI in the transfer case, then you have the NP205 which is a desirable transfer case to have! Full gear drive; no chains.

The transfer case will use 80w90 GL-5 gear oil. Same for the front & rear axles. If you have a manual trans, it will use 80w90 as well. If it's an automatic, then Dexron III or equivalent ATF.

I would make sure that the rubber brake hoses to the front wheels & the drop to the rear axle are all in good condition. If the outer jacket is cracked, I would replace them.

Default Thanks for the feedback ....

Good point on the brake lines. All four corners are working well (good skid marks on gravel during a short test stop) but I really like the idea of preventative maintenance on the rubber hoses.

Ditto on the coolant hoses and other "aging susceptible" parts. Can't wait to take the compression. The #3 plug on the right side was pretty much oil fouled, but she runs like all 8 are hitting.

Yes, it has the manual shift with a 3-speed and an additional "LOW" creeper gear on the main shifter. Where do I look to determine if I have the gear drive or the chain drive? Per the forum's year model info, I would guess that my 1975 would be gear drive. But I am no expert.

Thanks again - - be safe,

Nelson
