Default stereo removal

I have a 1994 k5 blazer. I went to remove my factory head unit to install the storage pocket thing that came with my dash kit I ordered. After struggling to get the dash bezel out far enough to potentially get the head unit out, it seems as though I need to remove the hvac assembly at least partially to remove the head unit. I started to remove the hvac and I cannot get the top left bolt out because my microscopic 7mm wrench wont rotate it because it hits the plastic housing of the hvac assy, and I cannot fit any of my 7mm sockets on it either. I had to button it all back up and give up cause I could not remove 1 stupid screw. Has anyone else struggled with that particular bolt?

also, while im here, has anyone out there seen or heard of anyone modifying the factory center trim that has the 2 vents and the tape deck or pocket in vehicles w/o tape deck so that they can fit an aftermarket stereo in there? It honestly seems like it shouldn't be extremely difficult but just wondering if there is any info on here.
