Default Transfer case rebuild

About how much does it cost to get a transfer case rebuilt vs a new transfer case for a 1985 blazer k5? I have a mechanic telling me 1,500 for a rebuild but that seems too exaggerated to me.. help please

im surprised you can even buy new ones anymore. i used to just slap junkyard ones in my trucks as they were usually offroad only anyways. you can take the gamble and search craigslist and buy a used one unless you have a really nice truck

Negative not a really nice truck. Just use it for fun. You think 1,500 is alot for a rebuild??

$1500 is rediculous. Find another shop if you can't do it yourself. In this area I can find used NP208's for $100 all day long.

Should be a np208 unless you have a military blazer or a Frankentruck. A 208 has a aluminum case and will have a round tag on the back of the case that will identify it.
I think a reman 208 is only in the $600 range.
If you go used, be sure to get one with the correct input spline count.
Th350/700r4/4l60=27 spline. Th400/4l80/all manual= 32 spline

yeah that price seems pretty high. might just be the mechanics dont want to mess with it or figure its going to take like 2 days so they just gave you a high price as a polite way to tell to you to go away lol

I'd go with JASPER. They rebuilt and give you a solid warranty.

You can call for a price, but I'll bet it's lower than any major providers.
