1975 blazer crossmember cracking
 

[align=left]I have a 1975 Blazer and I replaced my steering gearbox and noticed that the crossmember was cracked on the driver side. Does anyone know of where I can get the reinforcement plate or how to built one. Or is there a better way of reinforcing these crossmembers. thank you.

It's quite possible that all it needs is just to be welded back up. Mostlikely someone drove the truck pretty hard at one point or another in it's life.

It isn't really all that difficult to make up a reinforcement plate for the area in question, but I can't specify further than that without knowing the area you are concerned about. One thing that I do no matter what I am creating a panel/patch/reinforcement for is to make a cardboard template of the peice to be used including all bend locations and radii that are necessary. Don't be afraid to make the reinforcement out of numerous pieces of metal.

I think you're probably talking about the left front frame rail that the steering gear bolts on to.
Best to take it to a frame shop for a proffessional repair.
I located a frame at the auto wreckers and had a couple of feet cut off, then took it to a frame repair specialist to have it welded on.
Someone had tried to weld the crack before I bought the truck (the '74) but the steering still felt very sloppy because the frame was flexing.
