Hey y'all. I'm wantin' to swap out the 2.8L V6 in my 1982 RWD S10. No computer. Just carb. I have no interest in puttin' a CPU in it. What should I do? I'm tired of hearin' that I should drop a 350 in it. That is gettin so old it seems like a bad joke. I just want a bigger V6 with more power. One I can order brand spankin new, and not need a computer in it. Just hate that plain old 110HP/145ft.lbs of torque. Any good input would be grately appreciated, Thanks

3.4 v6 that was in the cameros is pry the easiest option, plug and play, the use the same block, if i remember right, I was gonna put one in my 86 cherokee..

4.3 v6 would work fine, but you would have to either change the transmission or get an adapter. Also there is an manifold from edelbrock that works with a Carb.

3.1 or 3.4 out of camaro or firebirds will be the easiest. Either will bolt right in like it was factory. Only thing is you have to add an electric fuel pump.

With all the crap you have to change to put a 4.3 in it you might as well put in a v8. You have to change the rad, trans, and exhaust for either. Early 4.3s were factory carbed, find the right year engine and no need to buy a high priced intake.

I have an early 4.3, and it's a throttle body so I guess you could use a two barrel Carb. If it was me I'd spring for the manifold, and I'm planning on getting one for mine.

4.3s have been around since 85. The first year for them in s-series was 88 and in our trucks they have always been fuel injected. S-series wasn't the only thing the 4.3 was used in. Like just about every other gm engine they got tb injection in 1986.

1989 is far from an early 4.3.

Do what you want.. BE UNIQUE! That's the main reason I'm against 350 engine swaps.. everyone does it!

If you can find a carb intake, then you can find the right distributor. Exhausts get fabbed all the time and what's the big deal about a freaking radiator.
Transmission... REALLY?!!!!!

Just make sure you match the intake with the head profile.

I personally like the 4.3s

Why put an 4.3 in it when its gets the same mileage as a 5.7, way less power, and is the same amount of work. Its one thing to be unique but another to be practical.

I still say a 3.4 swap. Its a bolt in swap, has more power, and simple. No need in swapping out the entire drive train for a simple dd.
