1995 Chevy Blazer-Advice?
Hey all,
I have gotten interested in a Chevy Blazer that is a '95 model. Price is $2,874, with 174,053 miles. It looks pretty decent, but I have been reading some reviews on Edmunds about how the tranny goes bad, and how expensive it is to repair this model from 1995:confused:. Does anyone have any advice or experience with these model? If so, please let me know and give me any information about expense of upkeep and if the tranny fails at a certain point. :D |
Are you in canada? I bought my 1995 last year with 103K for $2200. Was in mint condition with new spider injectors, tires, ac compressor, etc. I would keep shopping around. Have you tried criagslist? I haven't had any problems with the blazers i have owned but they all had around 120K on them. I believe the 4l60e are pretty reliable.

While my Blazer does remind me of the sound and torque of the muscle cars I had in and after high-school. The motor running very strong and the tranny keeping up, I can let you know the following...
I've replaced the entire cooling system, and fuel pressure regulator, power steering pump and lines, and various other insignificant parts like the skid plate/filter access cover and the fan shroud top and bottom. That's the stuff I've had to do to it - all of which was pretty easy and not even expensive really. If you are mechanically inclined and want to learn a little more about wrenching then these trucks will get you as much as you want. My motor and tranny are original and I'm looking to rebuild the tranny this next year at 190,000 miles. That price is high though - I got this sporty red two-door for $2300... I had to find something cause my daily driver(98 Honda Civic) got stolen and chopped! I do want to also tell you that I absolutely love the truck, I've got mine tricked with wheels and stuff and it turns heads - it's funny, a Blazer turning heads. People ask me about it and people think it's newer than it is..? I try to use the same gas station just to avoid getting questions! Good Luck! |

I noticed it seemed high, but it is coming directly from a certified Ford or GM Dealer, and I believe there is a warranty that comes with it. I could pay 2000$ for one from a person off the street, but I dont want to get stuck with all these problems like a bad cooling system, bad tranny, bad engine, etc. From what I have heard, buying these from dealers isnt a bad idea. HD water pump and hoses were about $120 all together.
Power Steering pump and hoses were about $100 all together. Fuel Pressure Regulator was about $45 and two hours and was a major mess! Seeing the chop shop punks getting busted on the 6:00 news just days after yours was stolen... hmmm nice lol.
I am just looking for a reliable 4x4, since I live in Wisconsin, that does not cost alot to maintain yearly. I am only 17, almost 18, and working at Kmart not making a whole bunch of money. Any other suggestions would be appreciated for different years. |

I would really try to find something 96 and above with OBD II. 95 is an oddball year for blazers.

Why is it oddball? Just mainly because of the redesign?

It is an oddball in that the vast majority of 95 Blazers have a mixed on board diagnostic system. It is a mix of OBD1 and OBD2 making it a royal pain to do anything with the OBD system.
