So I stole this unit for $1500 3 years ago,transfered all my new parts from my 96 and created a nice Blazer that I have put 60K with no problems whatsoever;I maintain the heck out of it.Still in nice shape and runs superb and is economical to operate and insure.
It does need attention now tho' Trans valve body/solonoid issues(intermittant) control arm bushings,hubs,both front ABS sensors,rear spring shackles,and a new gas filler neck and A/C repair. I have a dealer account at NAPA and am able to do about half of this myself( I don't have air tools at home)and I have a good relationship with with an economical shop. I know I am looking at about $2000 for all of this and my wife is pitching a fit! We have been driving an S-10 Blazer for 7 years now and she wants a different car,but with only 200K on it I hate to sell it off for $500 and give away an attic full of parts to boot! I personally feel $2000 and a weeks time is a better investment than taking the $2000 and dumping on a newer(unknown) and more expensive vehicle to operate. I know I can get another 100K out of this one EASY! Your opinions? Thanks!

Air tools? Who needs air tools?! Hand tools can get the job done, just might take a little longer.

I would keep the blazer. For $2,000, you're just going to trade a few problems you know for more you don't know. You know your Blazer has been maintained, and the things that need repair really isn't anything extreme or major. The $2,000 car you buy probably won't be in as good shape.

i hope that 2k includes a new trans. thats alot of money for the problems you mentioned.

I know it seems like alot of $, but I am using that as a high ballpark,I am not going to attempt some of these jobs w/o air! This trans does not need rebuilding,just solonoid and valve body work. Remember that wheel sensors are now going for $60 ea! And as I go through this unit,I know I will attend to other irritating concerns that these are famous for...And I have to ask:just where can one get a rebuilt 4L60E rebuilt for less than $1500-nowhere around here! Thats why I am repairing it! Same with the A/C! Hence the $2K figure...
