4.3 rpm limit

just wondering what is the highest rpm you've ever hear of/or made a 4.3 run at semi safely. stock or not.

I never go over 2500 3000 but thats me on all my trucks.

It revs nicely to the 5500rpm, it shifts there, but it feels like its still pulling pretty good at that rpm. 6-6500 is my guess safely before the valvetrain starts floating.

I've run mine up to 5,500. But that makes me nervous to do. I've got almost a quarter million miles on a original engine. I can just imagine it letting go too easily!

I believe theres an RPM limiter at 5500, thats what ive heard anyways. But i never try to get mine that high. Its been at 5000 a total of maybe 4 times when i was trying to pass quickly.

But a couple times a month i like to do a good Italian tune and let it get to 4k RPM when im getting on the freeway or something. Engines are made to do that, just dont hold it there very long.

My dads old SeaRay had the 4.3 marine engine in it and that thing would regularly hang out at 4500-5000 RPM for long periods of time. Its a little more efficient at cooling than the car version but it has almost the same internals, aside from the cam.

I think i may be hard on my motor...It sees 5500 RPM regularly. :icon_goofygrin:

antz2009 Dec 13, 2012 07:05 PM

as does mine, 5500 daily ha

thinking about buying a spare 4.3 and building it but with better cams and stiffer springs and so on.. my goal would be a 9000 rpm motor.. for absolutely no reason just think it would be cool.
