Maybe a new exhaust.

There are some good threads here:

On my 04, gutted cat and a Flowmaster 40 series, rest of the exhaust is stock. Only way to get a deeper tone than this from the 4.3l in my opinion would be headers and larger diameter piping...

Woah that sounds mean.

The Dynomax cat-back system might not be loud enough for you but it is a super easy install. I did it primarily to replace the muffler but it was nice to get larger pipe and a bit deeper sound.

When you go to the cat back sites for Blazers/Jimmys , you will notice that they are mostly for 4 door versions. What is your 1996?
You may want to look at replacing just the muffler if the rest of the exhaust is good.
Also I have read several times on the forum that the 4.3L V6 is hard to make it sound like a Chevy V8. One thing I haven't read on the forum is how high compression in the engine makes a difference in the sound of the exhaust. But it is a lot of work & expense to increase the compression and also makes you buy more expensive High test gasoline from then on.

I am now running a Magnaflow Y Pipe and cats with a Gibson cat back exhaust. Decent tone but may not be what you'r looking for since a V6 will never sound like a V8.

I would like to take some the sound from my 2006 GMC Envoy Denali with a Flowmaster 10 muffler. Sounds mean but I can hear my wife from about 1/2 mile away when she is driving up.
