my daughter had the left side rear frost plug replaced on her 95 blazer btwn # 5&3cyl.by a auto shop in dec. .unfortunately i wasn't able to do it at the time.I did just replaced the one on the opposite side btn# 6&4 cyl., right above the starter .I was able to tap it in to the inside edge of the chamfer of the hole to get max.contact between plug and engine block. the plug that the shop installed was sticking out 1/16" past the block.the chamfer is just over 1/8" deep and the plug has about 5/16" of straight sealing edge on it.The way i figure, only 1/8" of the plug is in contact with the block.When I talk to the mechanic he said that there was a cyl wall on the inside that was preventing it from going in all the way.Is this true?I didn't really buy it and i am bringing it in next saturday but i would like to be sure before i bring it in.The plug doesn't look any longer then the one i installed and there was nothing on the other side preventing it from going in all the way.Also should i just let him try to tap it in further or replace it ?there were some screwdriver marks on the aft side edge and a slight deformation inwards on the plug in the same area and no sealant was used at instalation.There are no leaks right now but i am concerned it might pop out at some later date Any info on this would greatly be appreciated

Hmm... Never have had the freeze plugs out of my engine. However, this the plug location that the factory block heater and it shouldn't have anything in the way of the freeze plug fully seating.

Yeah there is definitely something wrong here. It sounds to me like maybe they knocked the old one in and it is behind the new one? Like they gave up trying to get the old one out maybe? That is just a guess of course, but there is no way the cylinder is interfering with it unless there is something else in there. Yes it should have some sealer on it also.

Most mechanics will try to use a long extension to put in plugs they can't get to easily....I personally would try to get it in further just to see if it will. I know that the factory installation has the plugs into the chamfer edge. And aftermarket installation should be the same...

You might consider finding an inblock heater if you live in an area that has lots of severe cold weather during winter...
