Blazer Newb - Looking for Help

I picked up my 2010 Camaro SS in May, and want a 4x4 so I can garage the car for the deep winter months and have a backup car for the rest of the year. I'm looking to spend no more that $2500-3000. Originally, I was only considering a 96+ Jeep Cherokee with a good number of miles since those things are practically bullet proof and will drive you beyond armageddon. Then, I noticed that there are plenty of 95+ Blazers in that price range as well. I also like the interior of the blazer more. So, if I am to consider a a Blazer, what do I need to consider in terms of how reliable it will be, and what should I be screening for if I buy? I understand I am looking at high mileage in that price range, and I am ok with that as long as the drivetrain has been known to hold up. I don't want the rig to be a complete money pit (which is why I was thinking I-6 Jeep).

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! I really think you'd enjoy a Blazer if you do decide to buy one.

Having owned both, I'd honestly recommend the Jeep. As you've said they will drive you through armageddon. Wish I still had mine, 220k and no problems... Blazer is an ok choice too ;)

I don't have access to my camera right now, but here are a few that I had on my phone from when I picked it up.

What motor and tranny? I have a 98 Camaro and love it. Fbodys rock :D

I was in the same situation as you a few months ago between a jeep and blazer needless to say I got the blazer because I couldn't beat a 2000 blazer with 111k for 2,500. So far it has been a great vehicle and I'd recommend one to anyone.

Its the 426 HP LS3 and 6M Tremec 6060. Just hit 5K and it's really waking up, just like most of the LS-based motors do. Fun to drive to say the least, which is why I'd like to keep it in the garage for the winter.

In terms of drivetrain reliability for the Blazer, I've seen a lot of reviews indicating that the tranny or transfer case go between 75-90k. Is this common? Is it limited to a certain year range, or have the same transmissions been in these things since 95?

Im not sure about how good the jeep is, but i can assure you that blazers are fairly trustworthy suv's if you take care of them, mine runs like a champ. I guess it depends who had the truck befor you, mine had 2 owners and the guy befor me as well as me took and takes very good care of it. and it never lets me down =) cant go wrong with a blazer

i don't think i've ever come accross any bad t-cases before-and i beat on my trucks pretty hard (trying not to do that with the latest one). i know the t-case can stand up to abuse, i used to do 5+ grand launches (in 4HI) and i never broke a t-case. the trany's yes, but not the t-case.
