Chevy G80

Hey i was wondering if the chevy g80 dif is locking or not because ive heard from many people saying it is and saying it isnt so wat is true?

The G80 is a locking differential made by Eaton.

Well, both statements you have heard are true. At low speeds, it will lock up if a certain amount of RPM difference is sensed wheel to wheel. After a certain speed, it is basically an open diff.

More commonly called a limited slip locker. The greater the speed difference between the two rear wheels the faster the locker engages. So when your driving around town it acts like an open differential, driving in snow and both wheels with get power.

I have a g80. This last winter while in two wheel drive the back would want to come around and meet the front, in four wheel drive not a problem. I thought the locker wouldn't engage untill shifted into four wheel drive. I'm still not sure how it works.

It will lock up when there is "about" a 100 RPM difference between the rear wheels/tires. You'll usually know when it kicks in as there is normally a pretty good thunk in the rear end.

It works in 2WD and 4WD.
