Do headlights dim over time?
 

Simple as that. I'm curious to see if this myth holds true. I have heard this before, but I haven't found any solid evidence. My Blazer is a 2000 LT... do you think over that period of time, the headlights would be sufficiently dimmer? Dim enough that if I replaced the bulbs, I would notice a significant difference?

(These are stock headlight bulbs I am talking about. Not sure which type of bulb came standard with the vehicle, halogen or other, but I haven't changed anything since I got my baby back in the day...!)

Yes, the bulbs will dim as the filament ages. New bulbs will make a world of difference as will removal of the UV oxidation on the lenses.

Any type of cleaners or polishes you might recommend that don't damage the surface or make it more vulnerable to damage over time?

to your question theres two answers,,, first off Most auto supply stores sell a kit for the headlight lenses... or you can get a good rubbing compound with an orbital polisher like they use in autobody shops, ive done it and it worked wonders with the rubbing compound... The kit that ive seen ive tried, yeah it works but not like the compound, ya hve to use a drill put the adapter for the pad in it dip the polishing pad in water first then rub away, too much nonsense,,it will all depend on what ya have available first the store or a polisher...
