exhaust question
 

ok i am doing a head gasket i 150 thousand miles. its a 99 chevy blazer 4 door automatic with auto 4wd (junk). neways as i was removing the cast iron header pipe i had to remove the flextubing on it. needless to say i snapped it right off but was able to get it out. what will this do if i plugged it off on the header and the intake. what will this do will it run right after or should i go and replace the hose

The stuff isn't that expensive. You can get it at any A/P store. I'm a believer in fixing things. You're going to the trouble of doing a head gasket job. I don't think this is going to break the bank.

well ive called around noone can get a new tube they keep telling me to go to the dealer so do you know what will happen if i jsut cap iton either end

I really don't know exactly what a 99 looks like but if it's a piece of aluminized flex hose 1 1/2 - 2" in diameter, I've bought several from NAPA and just cut them and bent them to fit. Try this for OEM parts. http://www.1stchevyparts.com/
I guess you could just plug it and try it. If it works for you, go for it.

If header pipe = exhaust manifold

and flex tubing = down pipe... you whould be able to get a new down pipe to Y-pipe section from Autozone or somewhere like that. OEM would last longer but it's probably expensive.

Here's what you do... call your dealer and tell him what you need, ask for the price and part number... go to GMpartsdirect.com and search that part number... I garauntee the price will be alot less than what the parts guy told you and then you'll get OEM replacement for not-that-much-more-expensive than aftermarket junk.

Thats the EGR valve. Its just an emissions based part. You can remove it and the car will drive perfectly normally. You may have slightly worse emissions, but thats will be the only consequence..... Just be sure you plug them up well.
