Found a surprise in my blazer!

So, I was digging through the back of the blazer I picked up for the tub.
And in the back, I found an old Rochester QuadraJet carb. Since I didn't need it for my engine... I posted to CracksList.:icon_shrug:

Upon getting a bunch of responses, I google the model. 1970 Vette is most commonly associated.:icon_google:
This gets me wondering about the engine. But the VIN has been ground off. :icon_doh:

Case #'s still intact = 3970010
Was used in Vette's from 69 - 79.
Gotta see if I can't get the VIN (acid test maybe) to verify. BUT DAMN! That's a nice find in a "take it all" blazer!

3970010 was used in a lot of applications as well as the Corvette. The head casting number will help you narrow it down, but so would the stamping code.

Here's the breakdown of all of the codes from the block in my K5:
  • Casting code: “3970010”
    • 1969-1979 350CID V8 2 or 4 bolt, car, truck, Corvette
  • Stamping code: “V0715CMB”
    • V- Flint (engine)
    • 07- July
    • 15- 15th day
    • CMB- 350, 4brl, 155HP/250lbft, F, LM1, Nova/Camaro
  • VIN code: “15N653303”
    • 1- Chevrolet
    • 5- 1975
    • N- Norwood
    • 653303- production sequence of vehicle VIN
The Q-jet on mine was from a '74 automatic equiped vehicle with 49 state emissions, but that's the extent of what can be determined from the Q-jet part number.

It's neat researching the origins of the parts found in/on old iron!! I'll have to take a look at the casting codes/numbers from the two other 4-bolt blocks I have.

I have to get some hydrochloric acid to try to pull the #'s off the front to be fully sure. When it was rebuilt, they got ground off.
... I'm "assuming" vette due to the carb and heads.
But I've also come across Bug's with Chevy engines...

... I bought it for the tub. The double walled top and everything else that came with it. So, when I sell it all off, it'll become at least a little stash of cash... till I buy everything else I need to make my K5 sexxy
