Fuel pump problem

Have problem with fuel pumps going out. 3since I got it 3 years ago. Most recently replaced about 4 months ago with AC Delco pump. 1996 S-10. Any ideas what might be causing them to malfunction so frequently? Could it be a relay problem or other electrical issue?

What brands were the first couple of pumps? If they were not AC Delco or Delphi then such failures are not unusual. The AC Delco/Delphi pumps seem to be the most robust.

Do you like to drive around with only $5 in the tank? Empty tanks take out fuel pumps real easy. The gas cools the pump, so empty tank equals poor cooling of the pump mechanism.

Keep the tank over 1/2 all the time and you will find that pumps dont go out on you.

Also, anything other than Delco/Delphi is a waste of your money.

First two were not AC Delco. Third one was. Usually fill up around half tank or just under.. Fuel gauge does not work properly.

you wont have anymore issues with this last one since its ac delco. For whatever reason these trucks are so picky on pumps.

Since it's only 4 months old, it should be covered under warranty at least. I'd guess you just got a bad one, unless you got some bad gas or something in your tank.

Mechanic tells me it's a fuel injector issue and not the fuel pump. Says it's injecting too much fuel at once.
