Good resource for learning transmission differences?

Are there any good resources out there for learning the differences between the various 4l60s that came in different vehicles and different years? I'm interested in learning what the differences are and what would generally be needed to swap out the 4l60s in, for example an f-body with one from an S10/ blazer or swapping out one in a Blazer with one from a C/K truck.

I understand that different years are incompatible within vehicle models, and that some transmissions are incompatible between models. What I'm trying to learn is what makes them incompatible (and what can be done to make them work), and what the pros and cons are with each models transmission (which is stronger, which TC has the highest stall speed, which has the best chance of being upgraded, etc.)

I may be buying another Blazer soon, and after a few loose ends with other vehicles, I've been considering learning what is necessary to build a decent fuel injected engine and building a Vortec 5700 and 4l60 to go into it.
