Greetings from Reaver - Owner of a 96 Blazer LS 4wd
Greetings folks!!
I'm likely going to be rather active on these forums going forward, as I'm going to embark on a journey of rebuilding many parts of my beloved Blazer. But first, a little history....
I bought my '96 Blazer in 2004, right after I started a job out of college. At the time, she had roughly 72k miles on it.
It's now 2017 (almost 2018), and she's just shy of 260k miles (258k, to be exact).
Since then, I've replaced the heater core 4 times, water pump 3 times, power steering pump, radiator, brakes (many times), fuel pump, thermostat, shocks, mode door actuator, fan blower, basically all A/C parts with the exception of the evaporator, and I'm sure a few other parts that I'm forgetting.
The engine runs great, if not a little rough. I've never changed the wires, or plugs (I know, not a good idea), but it's never really given me much issues with that. It's a daily driver, and she's been a wonderful truck.
What I'm planning on doing in the very near future:
Intake manifold gaskets - I think I have a VERY small leak here, since I can see coolant on the block, towards the front of the engine. This one should be fairly easy, but super time consuming.
Slightly farther away future
Evaporator Core - I've replaced pretty much every other part of the A/C system (except the compressor) and had it tested. There's no visible leaks in the engine bay, so the other place that it could be leaking is the evaporator, or so I'm told. I live in Southern Idaho, so it gets wicked hot in the summer, and I just won't put my 1yr old in the truck when it's hot without A/C. Probably do this one in the spring.
Steering and Wheel components - This one's gonna suck. I've got tons of creaking while driving, pops when turning (not all the time, and only when the turns are really sharp), and most of the boots are missing on things. I figured I'd just get under there and start replacing pretty much everything. I've found kits on ebay for around $250 or so, that should give me everything I need, or so I think.
Distant future (once I get all the mechanical stuff taken care of)
Nose swap - I prefer the nose of the 98+ Blazers, so I want to swap it out. Not terribly difficult from what I've read here.
This thing has honestly been fantastic, even if a bit neglected. But, since it runs great, and honestly drives quite nice, it's time to start fixing some of this stuff. Maybe I can get another 250k out of it.
