How much do you spend on your blazer/jimmy?
Hello everybody
A lot of car owners like modify or keep it with him even if the repair will cost too much So, Let see how much the blazer/jimmy owners spend on include modification and replaced parts. For me I got my 00 jimmy for free but I spend on it $2,507. thank you |
Well not including regular maintenance... I probably have around 5k. My 2 biggest purchases have been the replacement engine and lift kit. Everything else has been second hand or scrap yard.

To be fair, I picked it up for less than 2k. But between mods and repairs, I've certainly put the same amount or more into it since... But, knock on wood, at this moment, there's nothing broken and it's reliable :D accept for the driver's door hinge bushings, those need serviced, AGAIN... |
Purchased for about $3,500 10 years ago.
Besides regular maintenance, these are the big ticket items: $1,400 in suspension lift (including the new larger tires) $500 in upgraded brakes/rotors $500 in upgraded cooling system $2,750 in rebuilt transmission $150 (in total) for rear spare tire bracket $240 Yakima roof-top cargo carrier (transferable to another vehicle) $800 Bush Winch recovery system (alternate to a winch, transferable to another vehicle with purchase of adapter plates.) I figure I'd have to pay about $12k at least to replace this with a 10 y.o. 4Runner, the only vehicle I can imagine that could fill the needs my Blazer currently does for me. As such I'll be keeping it for a while longer. The deal-killers for keeping will be if the engine blows (unlikely), the transmission craps out (unlikely), the electrical system gets really damaged (really unlikely), or it gets banged up in an accident (hard to control for). |
I paid over $20K for mine 20 years ago, brand new from the dealer. Mods I'd have to say in the neighborhood of another $3K over the years, preventive/corrective maintenance for the past 20 years probably over $10K. More than that on gas for 300K miles and counting.

10s of thousands. the rig itself not running was a $1200 gift. 4 years and tens of thousands of dollars later ive lost track.

4x4 with lockers front and rear! 4wd is the only way to go when it comes to trucks.

Do you all include the cost of tools that you've bought JUST for the Blazer? Mine has caused me to go out and buy an AC vacuum pump and manifold gauges, Tech2 scanner (well, a clone...), and I don't even want to get into the sockets that the engine bay has eaten and I've had to replace (most recently a 14mm shallow and a 13mm deep, lost during my recent intake manifold gasket replacement, I'm sure they're rolling around on my skid plate lol)

Some of the parts on my Blazer (axles, transmission, transfer case, wheels and tires) came off my old K5, so that money was spent a few years earlier. It doesn't hurt as much that way. But, realistically, I've probably spent around $20k on it, not including the initial investment of $450. And that was with me doing ALL the labor. |
Granted I use those tools that I mentioned on OTHER vehicles than the Blazer, so I guess I can't say I bought them for the Blazer... maybe because of the Blazer lol

Up Up
Let see how much other members spent on their blazers lol |
In the last 6 months, I've spent about $6000 on a new transfer case and rear axle. :icon_omg:
|
I think I've only bought two tools specifically for my Blazer, the 36mm socket for the axle nut and the special tool for the door springs. I do have quite the collection of tools from over the years and have no problem buying a tool I need for any project. I spent to many years in the Navy not having the proper tools to make repairs down in the fire room.
I also didn't add in insurance and registrations for the last 20+ years. I don't even want to think of how much that has costs, plus the few times I had to have a shop do a repair due the circumstances at the time. |

Thanks!

Bought mine for $1400. Needed about $3900 of maintenance right off the bat. Me and my dad did most the work but there were some things that were easier for a maintenance shop to do like motor mounts (ran me a pretty penny at $1250 alone) but parts took most of the cost. Put about $500 worth of second hand parts in it, i.e junkyard parts
|
Bought my 02 for 2200 and put another 800 in parts and maintenance.

Close to $1,000 in suspension, brakes and replacing the entire interior. Still need a new dashboard and the engine tune ups.
