Just finished heater core replace, 2002 Blazer

My son's 2002 Blazer. He lives with my paents. After working on it for 5 days, got it done. I didn't work on it yesterday though, so you can say 4 days. I only worked on it a few hours a day, as it was too cold all week. Got it all done, and started it to make coolant system was full. Left to take my brother home (he helped today) and my dad calls, says it won't starts, and my son thinks the starter sounds funny. Now keep in mind he couldn't change a flat if his life depended on it. So I go back over and battery ground wire is a bit loose, even though the bolt is tight. I told my mom I'd come back tomorrow and figure it out.
I hate, no despise, side post batteries. One of the stupid inventions. This was the first time I had to remove the whole dash, and I'll never do it again.
I just wanted to share that.

I just had my 98 Blazer heater core done. Too damn much money $800.

yeah they suck but the more you do them the better you get. my 90 fullsize actually has a access panel. 4 screws and you get right at it. i dont know why every vehicle cant do that

boy i have yet to do a core and dread the though of it on a blazer s10 but there is no way i would ever pay 800$ to have a heater core done.

did mine a few weeks ago....PITA....pieces of the dash broke due to rot...and now my heater selector switch isn't switching (probably due un-connected tubes)....right now it's at a welding shop to get the freaking starter mount welded up that the PO broke...getting real tired of driving my s10 xtreme in the snow...it wasn't made for that...thats why i bought the blazer zr2...

thats the only way they come...unless you count the marine block which doesn't work for vehicles (as far as i know anyways)...

they are charging me roughly $200...a lot more than it should....but less than the alternative of swapping motors...plus i kind of what my blazer back ASAP...

Battery was almost dead. Got it charged and tested it. Wouldn't hold a charge. Got a new one and no problems now. All heater functions work right, along with all switches/lights/etc in dash.
Diamond, I hope you get yours figured out.

make sure you get a warrenty with that cast iron weld. ive never seen a piece of cast iron welded good enough to think it could handle the beating of the starter.

got a pic of the damage? maybe they are using steel to reinforce it by tapping the cast iron and plating it.

dam it...

got off the phone with the welder late last night...he welded it but after the third crank the weld broke...he is trying to figure out some sort of bracing...looks like an engine swap is coming soon....looks like i be driving my xtreme all winter...crap....
