Is it just me or does it seem when one thing goes wrong on blazer everything does
Here is what i have done to my blazer since buying 10 months ago from the car dealer who said "This blazer is best car on my lot it will not need any work for at least 2 years"
3 new calipers bout $70 a piece 4 new brake lines $40 a piece 2 new front hub bearings $100 a piece Both front and rear fluid changed $100 all together 4 new rotors $60 a piece All of this happed with in 5 months But despite of all this my blazer is by far my favorite car i have ever owned and i have owned at-least 14 |
i paid 400 for mine last year
did tires, ball joints, front brakes, cv shaft, and a radiator so far not to bad for a 200k mile truck |

What you list is not out of line for a used vehicle with an unknown maintenance history. |

Boy! You guys really got off cheap. Bought my 94 from my nephew who didn't do anything but drive it and put gas, oil, P/S fluid and tranny fluid in it. (Do you see a trend here?) So I:
1) Replaced the oil lines 2) Resealed the oil filter adapter with new gasket & "O" ring 3) New P/S pump 4) Idler pulley and 5) Of course the belt had chunks missing so it got a new one 6) Battery 7) Rebuilt digital instrument cluster 8) Gauge temp sensor 9) Tires 10) (Only) 1 caliper & front brakes and ground rotors 11) Rear brake hardware 12) Fuel pump and sender 13) Heater & A/C control switch 14) Upper radiator shroud 15) Fixed A/C wiring - still am going to replace bad connector (just how I am) 16) Fixed interior & underhood lights 17) Right fender where battery leaked or something - only rusted out piece on truck 18) Inside driver's door handle 19) 3 window motors and replaced clips (guides) on 2 of them 20) Removed transfer case and resealed 21) New rear nount (where leaky T-case and adapter ate it up pretty good 22) Front and center brake hoses - collapsed inside and locking brakes 23) Only had to adjust parking brake cable (probably 15 turns it was that far out) 24) Put on cat-back exhaust (whole thing was toast anyway) 25) Catalytic converter (found out it was gutted after failed emissions test) 26) New Y pipe - found a few holes when the cat got changed 27) Replaced fuel pressure regulator 28) Rear window glass lift struts 29) New door lock cylinders and rekeyed glove box cylinder (used to be 3 keys) 30) New cruise/brake light switch (cured my ABS light problem too) 31) 3 U-joints 32) Replaced ashtray assembly (little tab broken off that holds glove box hinge in) 33) Replaced rear bumper, impact strip and trim piece and painted 34) New O2 sensor - Check engine light came on on way home from failed emissions test 35) Am in the process of replacing center console with a 2nd gen model Still need to do some front suspension work - ball joints, etc. Spent a lot more than I'd planned helping out the relatives. I'm sure there's more but I just can't remember everything. Old age creeping in. Sure glad I didn't have to pay anyone to fix this thing. But I love my truck! |
99 GMC Jimmy
New lower ball joints Front passenger ABS sensor Thermostat Rear brakes pads and rotors Drivers side rear caliper. U-joints on rear shaft Now working on... Intake gasket...boo Front and rear pinion seals Front u-joint while the shaft is down for the pinion seal. |
ok Gimpy... but how many miles?
thats a 1994, i have a 2002 with under 50K on it... but thats still a chitload of stuff I agree |
185,000 +
Believe me I still have a ways to go. I don't think anyone ever did anything to this exceot just enough to keep it running (which it didn't when I got it). It sure has been a learning experience though. I also have a 84 S15 Jimmy that I sadly had to repo from young son that'ss in pretty rough shape. It's only got about 120,000 on it. BTW how do you like your body lift? I can't decide 2" or 3". |
I love the BL. I have 31's on it now & hopefully this upcoming week I'll have 33 x 12 1/2's.
The 3" lift was on the truck when I got it & they didn't install the bumper brackets. If you do go 3" & install the bumper relocation brackets then you may have to modify the rear one because it changes the geometry of the hitch receiver or you won't be able to tow. The bumper bracket & receiver plates are integrated at the frame. |
Thanks man. I see a 2" in my future. God knows I've put enough work in this creampuff as well as coin and would really like to start restoring my JimmY (again). Of course this is after I have to fix a Nissan Altima that the cams are out of time with the crank. (Broken tensioner as the chain is loose as a goose and zero compression on all cylinders) But it turns over and the valves aren't hitting the pistons. Must be a common problem. O'Reilly makes a kit just for this. This will probably be for another one of the relatives but I've implemented a new policy. Pay now, drive later.
