Looking at a '99 Blazer ZR-2 Tomorrow
 

Greetings! I am looking to buy an old 2 door Blazer so I can take my '15 Camaro SS Convertible off the road for the winter.


I have found a '99 that has the ZR-2 option on it, has about 160K miles. It's 4WD with an automatic and fully loaded with options.


Is there anything specifically that I should be looking at to make sure it's gonna last me for a couple of years without draining my wallet?

First off, ask them if the intake manifold gasket has been replaced. If not, you can expect that to be replaced at some point. Check the oil cooler lines for leaks, chances are, they are leaking.
Check to make sure the 4wd is actually working, look at the vac lines along the firewall and leading up to under the battery for cracks and dry rot, if you see some vac lines in bad shape, chances are the 4wd does not work, or will not work at some point.

Check the color and smell of the tranny fluid as well. Just to name a few things.

Thanks, I know about the normal stuff, but I don't know about the specific issues about Blazers. Appreciate your input. Allegedly, everything works. We will see.

Congrats. Check for the frame cracks though. Lot's of ZR2's have a problem with the frame cracking at the lower control arm mount.

Funny you should say that. A buddy of mine has a welder and a guy stopped by and asked if hed be interested in welding the frame on the passenger side. My buddy said no thanks and told the guy NO SHOP would either because of the liabality!!!! He said hed look tho. BOTH sides were cracked. he drove away. YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh boy. I did not know that. I will have to check it out.
