My truck says I get 11 mpg.

04 Blazer, 4wd, 4 door, 4.3, stock everything.
Driven smoothly with slow accelerations, I get between 17-19 mpg. That's 80% highway/rural, 20% city. |
damn i guess i shouldnt complain about my 16-17....it could be worse lol

Too good to be true
So I recently got my 94 full size blazer 4x4. Everything seems to be stock or pretty close.
Just did a 400 mile trip. With traffic, rain, crazy high winds, lots of idling around the infield at a race track helping with a car. I average 17mpg on that tank of gas. I'm a bit worried my TBI is trying to melt down the 350 since that's 2mpg better than the factory rated highway mileage. |
In my stock 02 LS, I've been getting 10-11 in the winter with ten minutes of idling twice a day to let her warm up. Once the summer came, and i cut the idling down to just about zero, I saw it stretch a little to just over 12ish. I drive short trips though, 1-3 trips a day, all under 4 miles, maybe two stop signs and three lights on average. I just find it pitiful I get the same gas mileage as my dad's burban. Makes me consider buying a full size. I just changed the oil with pennzoil high mileage oil and dumped a bottle of some fuel system cleaner down the gas neck. hopefully this will help it a little bit. I also debadged the sides to make it more aerodynamic...:icon_lolsign:

98 LT, 4x4, 4.3L V-6. Owned since 11/2012. Always gently-driven. Never use 4 wheel drive. About 80% city/20% highway. Has P0300 error code (intermitant Misfire) issue which I will address soon. (so many posts to read on this problem!) Use mid-octane gas vs, regular thinking it might help misfire problem a little. 147,xxx miles. Uses no oil. Can't believe some are getting close to 20 mpg. Would be happy with the 16-17 mpg range most seem to be in.

Misfires eat fuel with zero payoff - basically like sending it right out the tailpipe without any help pushing you down the road. Once that's fixed, I can guarantee your mileage will go up. Changing octane won't do much for you in that case. These engines aren't high-compression -- anything higher than 87 is tossing your money out the tailpipe along with the gas ... unless, of course, you live in a state that doesn't add ethanol to Premium - in that case, the extra money is money well spent. You'd see mileage go UP in that case.

4.3L w/ 4WD LT Blazer. 120,700x. Northern Cincinnati, 60% Highway, 30% High stop and go, and 10% city/town.
The AVG MPG on my ceiling column says I have an avg of 18 MPG. I've only had it since 117K though, so my driving could be a little different. I have noticed though, on the highway at 70MPH with cruise control, I've been sitting pretty at 25-27 MPG. This bitch is stock and leaks oil. The Instant Econ could be broken too though. I'll attempt the method in the OP at my next fillup |
Just changing tires killed my MPG was getting almost 15 mpg now at 10 mpg sporting
Yokohoma M/T's they do hum not as bad as super swappers then add extra weight like towing hitches, bull bars- winches I use both for towing boats there both awesome suv's 1994 Blazer Sport 5.7 =10mpg 2002 Blazer LS ZR2 =16mpg |
I checked mine again yesterday: 227 miles on 10.1 gallons = 22.5 mpg. At least 85% on flat hwys in warm weather. But I confess to driving like a wimp in my stock '98 LS with 112,000 miles. Even being wimpy, I sometimes get 18.5 mpg. I think the stock S10 Blazer is basically a 20 mpg truck when driven sensibly city/hwy combined. Mine is anyway.
