Parts run --HO Alternator

Making a run to u pull it on Mon or Tues...I need to find a High Output Alt for my 98 4.3 Blazer.

Can anyone tell me what yr and model have the alt that I should be looking for?

Look for an ad244 out of chevy trucks. 145 amp, you will need a 1 inch longer belt. Do yourself a favor and get a gatorback belt. no squealing

Captain Kirk 06-10-2017 05:30 PM

Newguy....thnx for the info...any idea on what range Years to look for? late 90s and up? And I will check into that belt you suggested.

mine was out of a silverado, dont know year

blazen_red_4x4 06-11-2017 08:14 PM

98~06 5.3 or 6.0

can usually find the 145 amps in Tahoes and Suburbans (fully loaded, has a few more electronics than a pickup), Escalades may share them too

mine came out of an 02 Tahoe

Captain Kirk 06-12-2017 07:47 AM

got my list...headed out now.....60 miles each way...thunderstorms this morn....mid 90s this afternoon....gotta love Nebraska weather. thnx for the info you guys! much appreciated.

Captain Kirk 06-12-2017 10:34 AM

At yard now...99 tahoe...not marked with numbers like i had hoped...could be 100, 124 or 140 . how to tell?

chris015 06-12-2017 10:38 AM

Captain Kirk 06-12-2017 10:41 AM

Captain Kirk 06-12-2017 10:57 AM

Got tools out of my car came back out to pull it to see if I can get any numbers off of it and it's a torrential downpour I'm hiding in some kind of a minivan at the moment

Captain Kirk 06-12-2017 10:58 AM

That will teach me...didnt bring coat...did stop at walmart and bought cheap umbrella

blazen_red_4x4 06-12-2017 11:00 AM

look for the RPO codes sticker on the inside of the glove box, skip to the "K" codes:

K68 = 105AMP
KG7 = 125AMP
KG8 = 130AMP
KG3 = 145AMP
KW1 = 160AMP (never personally seen one of those myself...)

Captain Kirk 06-12-2017 11:01 AM

And now hail...gotta laugh

Captain Kirk 06-12-2017 11:09 AM

Glove box ...interior gone..thought of that...no joy

blazen_red_4x4 06-12-2017 11:17 AM

KG9 is a code for a 140 amp generator... interesting...

Captain Kirk 06-12-2017 11:17 AM

It stopped raining enough for me to get back under the hood and try and pull this thing up the rest of the way I've got three of the bolts out already

blazen_red_4x4 06-12-2017 11:19 AM

shoot I just seen your looking at a 99 tahoe, those are square body with a 5.7l... you need to be looking at the next gen body style sir...

Captain Kirk 06-12-2017 11:28 AM

Oh I'm afraid to ask this next question. Does that mean the alt. i just bought isn't going to work?

blazen_red_4x4 06-12-2017 09:50 PM

the belt drive setup between the 4.3 and 5.7 is the same, it should still bolt up. double check the connector first before removing your old one

newguy 06-13-2017 04:21 AM

still believe you will need an inch longer belt

From reading posts about this b4 i left I knew to check and see what mine was...it is 4 wire plug....this one also has 4 wire plug. Did stop at AZ right after leaving the yard and it did test out green all the way. Had other plans with wife last night....didnt get to even go in garage other than to put tools and part away. she took my lock key away....she knows me 2 well....lol.

So maybe I'll be ok with this one? with $5 core it was $30.85 total.

Captain Kirk 06-13-2017 06:04 AM

After reading youre posts...maybe 2day will be a good day after all!!

Captain Kirk 06-14-2017 09:24 PM

It's gonna work!!

Set both alternators side by side...measured all mounting points and no problem...only difference besides size is the plug has slightly different angle/orientation which will not be a problem. I'm very happy. Gonna stab motor & tranny back in on my weekend (Mon/Tues). In process of installing what I can and just generally getting ready.

TO EVERYONE THAT OFFERED ADVICE/HELP/INFORMATION I TRULY APPRECIATE YOUR EFFORTS AND THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!
