Please help! Burning/natural gas smell in 4wd

So it's been snowing and icing here in New Mexico for the past week. I drive my blazer to and from work (9 miles each way) and with the roads being snow covered or icing I've been using my 4Hi to traverse the roads. By the time I get to work I can smell what smells like natural gas or that smell surrounding an oil pump in texas. What could this be? I checked my engine oil and my engine oil smells like gasoline so I think that there is another problem, but the natural gas smell only occurs in 4wd not 2wd. Oh and 4Lo doesn't engage at all, but 4Hi does. Please oh knowledgable souls of blazerforum, bestow your wisdom upon me! thanks,

Ross

Could be your 4x4 switch(top of transfer case) has failed, allowing ATF into the engine through the vacuum line. Wild guess though...

you mentioned that your engine oil smells like gas.... I would do a fuel pressure and leak down test asap, sounds like you have a leaky fuel pressure regulator or spider assembly.

I'll get that done this weekend while I have time off. Thanks!
