pulling a boat
Hey guys I was thinking (well dreaming) of maybe getting a boat. Before I narrowed down anything more specific as to what type or anything I wanted to ask about how much weight I would be able to pull with the Blazer. It's a 1995 4.3 4 dr 2 wd and it has an open rear- no posi or limited slip. I know the blazer is rated to pull around 5,000 lbs but I doubt if it would pull a 5,000 lb boat out of the water. What would be a safe weight? Or would it just be a good idea to go ahead and put in a posi unit? Thanks.

Well, I've got a 2000 4x4 2 dr, 3.42 gears. I pull my 18' Sea Ray with it all the time. Boat and trailer probably weigh in at a little over 3000 lb, though I haven't actually had them weighed yet. The Blazer does pretty good, but I never really have to haul it too far. I've got several boat landings within 10-15 miles of me.
I'd highly recommend trailer brakes and a tranny cooler. |
Thanks for the reply. I already have a tranny cooler on it. You don't have any problems pulling the boat out of the water? Some of the ramps around here are pretty steep/slick.

i wouldnt go to bigger then 3000lbs. ive towed a fullsize k5 blazer with a 2.8 s10 (just 1 mile) . sure itll pull it but controling it and stoping it is another story |
Ramps here are really well maintained. Never had a problem pulling the boat out. I bought the 4x4 just in case, but haven't needed it yet.
