Removing Spare Tire?

I have a full-size spare in the back of the blazer, it looks to be attached to some sort of bar but won't swing out or move.

From what I can see the tire should be mounted underneath the car, not in the inside, right?

Anyway, how do I get this thing out? I want to get access behind it, I think I see a jack and some tools back there.

Do you have a 2 door Blazer? The 2 door Blazers either had the spare tire mounted inside or on a carrier that latches to the rear door. It sounds like yours is inside? If that's the case, there should be a wing-nut type screw holding it into place. You have to remove the tire cover and then you can access the screw to free the spare tire.

When you do get it out, grab your drill, and mount a tire carrier! It's what all the cool kids are doing!!

Custom tire mount, or pull one from a junkyard?

Any good write-ups on mounting a tire carrier?

Just get one at a junkyard! I got mine for $19 off a two door. There is a great thread here: https://blazerforum.com/forum/articl...-thread-48921/

Thanks for the link, that might be a good option for me down the line. I have a big list of stuff to do on the blazer since I have only had it a few weeks now. Going through the suspension, adding a transmission cooler, fixing the electronics in the doors, etc.

I feel ya. I had to get mine running, first, but it was the first thing I did as soon as it was
