RockAuto For a Front End Rebuild?
 

Hello! I recently acquired a 1998 2door zr2 and definitely need to rebuild the front end!

I was looking at getting some MOOG parts while also trying to save a buck and cam across rockauto's website with very cheap prices (ball joint ~20-30$) https://www.rockauto.com/en/partsearch/?partnum=K5320 .
Does anyone have experience buying suspension parts from rockauto? A local friend has had experience with counterfeit parts from them before.

I don't know about counterfeit parts from them. If you are concerned, you might contact them about returns of such parts.

A d using Moog is considered a good choice for parts. The only other brand with heavier duty designs like Moog is Proforged.

I have purchased many parts from RockAuto and have had no issue.

Amazon in my personal experience, is the one you have to look out for, this greatly depends on the seller of course.

As Christine said, MOOG is a good choice. I used MOOG to redo my front end. Proforged is more heavy duty and have some parts already treated to prevent rust.

Ahh, I remember when I was allowed to order from RockAuto. A few months ago, they said that sales tax in most cities in Colorado are "too complicated" for them to figure out, so they're just not going to ship here anymore. I've never heard of a company doing that to loyal customers before, or since.

you're probably ok with name brand front end parts from rock auto. Front end parts usually don't "just break". so any warranty issues could be preplanned. I won't however buy another Fuel pump from them. for the expense involved, i want to do "over the counter" exchange on a pump warranty.

I used Rockauto for a complete front end replace. Unfortunately at the time there was a glitch for the lower control arm, it was all about the sway bar attachment. Everything else worked out fine, I ended up just replacing the ball joints and bushings in the lower control arm after receiving the wrong part from 2 different places. All explained here:

I've used Rock Auto for years now, got the magnets on the freezer in the garage to prove it lol. I've never had an issue with ANY of the parts. Sometimes you might get a beat up or deformed box if you catch a deal on parts that are new-old-stock, basically parts that have been sitting on a shelf for years and they push it to sell by dropping the price a LOT. I did a full tune up on my little Saturn a couple months back; plugs, wires, radiator hoses, thermostat, belts, air filter, fuel filter, valve cover gasket, a couple oil filters, I think in the end I paid like $48 for everything with shipping lol. All good name brand stuff too, not just the cheapest Chinese made junk I could find.

I've got Moog joints on my 04 4x4 Blazer right now that ordered from Rock Auto and installed about 3 years ago and they've never given me issues. Unlike the random brand idler arm that I bought locally and have had to replace 3 times since I've owned the Blazer... I WILL put a Moog on it when the cheap one on it now eventually fails...

I wanted to mention that Rock Auto has a parts rating system for their parts like many other parts suppliers do. Rock Auto uses many times a grading list such as 1./ Economy, 2./ Daily driver, 3./ Premium, 4./Heavy Duty, and 5./ High Performance for their parts. Some out there may remember that the old Sears catalog had a 'good, better, and best' on items like brake pads and shocks. Of course, there is an escalating price differential as well. That's true in the suspension parts line like Moog and other manufacturers of vehicle parts. Rock Auto is much more sophisticated than the old Sears three tier rating system. Be aware that just selecting a Moog brand is not enough. You need to select the Moog part with your needs and your usage in mind. I want to also add that some of these jobs are complicated and you want to buy a part that you won't be changing out in a short time, warranty or no warranty on the part.
