Sas question
O.K. im going ahead with the SAS, i know i need a 231c tracsfer case
what year should i be looking for. i found one locally, just want to be sure be for buying it.... Thanks a million, Robert |
why would you need a 231c? you could use the transfer case you have in your blazer
|
no it is the 236 automatic type. the dana 44 axles dont have the sliding coupler that engages the front axle like the stock ifs has, so the T/C will be ingaged all the time, the 231c is a manual t/c that completly disengages the front axle..
thats what i understand anyway.. |
doesn't matter, you could keep the 236, won't harm anything. it wouldn't be any different that the guys that do the bravada swap on them.
but all that said the 231 would be more reliable. |

I'm not sure if they made one equipped for the VSS but if they do, look into getting that version. I'd assume after '91 or so? I had to swap the whole tailshaft when swapping NP233 to NP231 to retain the stock VSS-operated speedometer. I didn't want to swap to cable driven.

to answer the question of what year to get, one from the first gen s-series will have all the goodies you'd want with a sas. fixed front yoke, hd internals etc etc.
|
ok so this is looking better, i think the dude sayed it came from a 1993
blazer, as long it has the VSS im ok, i dont want to start redisigning the wheel..thanks for the info guys, the axles were about on there way to the dump.... Robert |
either way. if it is a gear driven vss, its an easy swap.
|
All 91+ had the vss in the t-case. The 2nd gens had 231s also but a bit more rare as gm pushed the push button crap.
Wanna say 87 or 88 was the last year of the 207 and 90 or 91 was the last year of cable driven speedos. You then have the front output shaft change and I'm honestly not sure when that happened. |
