Tailgate Motor Ground?
Hi All, New member here. This is a great site! I need to verify the ground on my 84 K5 for the rear tailgate window motor. It appears that the motor receives its ground from the metal plate that it mounts to. Just trying to verify my assumption is correct. One other thing, can I test the motor via direct connection from the battery with the motor placed against the truck for grounding purposes? Just trying to avoid a $110 :icon_doh: Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks all!

yeah the motor itself grounds onto the tailgate. theres two wires going to it both of those are positive, one spins the motor in one direction one spins it in the other direction

Thanks for the confirmation. So it sounds like I should be able to test the motor with a direct connection to the battery and it grounded against the truck, which I did and there was no movement on the motor. I tested power to the motor w/ a test light and I have power to motor so it sounds the motor is bad (which I already replaced once). Looks like I'll be doing it again.... Thanks again.

110? have you thought about checking rock auto for a window motor?
|
Was looking to pick it up today and had to buy local. I found one for $75 from CarQuest. Never dealt with Rock Auto but checked it out after your recommendation and will definitely use it in the future. Thanks.

No problem, they have extremely fast shipping, even if you get the 3 day shipping, it ends up being cheaper than it would be in the parts store
