Towing a long lange
 

Hey everybody, I was hoping to get a little advice on short notice. I'm gonna help my dad out by picking up a motorcycle near Houston (9 hour drive) tomorrow (Monday)going through Dallas on the interstate. To save gas money, I'm wanting to drive my Blazer (Auto, 4x4, 4dr) instead of our '94 Chevy 4x4 that needs new tires anyways. The motorcycle weighs roughly 800 lbs. and the trailer I'm using is not too much of a heavy duty trailer, but it's large enough to hold a good sized car. I wanting to know if it's alrightto drivethat far on the interstate on "3" with it, or if I even need to keep it on "3". What do you think?

I just went 840 miles on the interstate with a fully loaded 6'x12' Uhaul. Had no problems. I recommend you keep it in "3." I made it with no problems. You should be just fine with just a motorcycle.

I appreciate it! Just out of curiousity, how fast were you driving in "3"?

I'd try starting out in "D", and if you find it downshifts frequently then shift into "3". I pulled a 3000lb 4x8' trailer for 3 hours at 65mph with no problems. Just watch the temp gauge.

Unless you have a tranny temp gauge, I would say keep it in 3. You may not have a problem keeping it in D, but with the gauges you do have, you can keep it in 3, save the tranny, and just watch temp gauge and fuel for engine issues. Worst part about keeping it in 3 is higher RPMs.
