Its more about weight rather than size.

What is the model- 1st gen, 2nd gen, K5? What size engine- 350 or 4.3L? Drivetrain- 2wd or 4wd?

Generally, a4.3L with a class 4 or better hitch should be able to tow about a ton or so in third gear. K5's will tow nearly anything.

If you've got the manual still, it'll list your maximum towing capacity... And there's no point in getting a class 4 hitch for a s-series anything... A class 3 hitch is rated for higher capacity than an s-blazer can tow...

My '05 2 door is rated for 4900lbs towing...

RE: Travel trailer ?

Yeah my '98 4dr 4wd s10 blazer has a Class III hitch and is rated at 5000lbs. I have pulled a 400lbs empty trailer, a 3500lbs car with car dolly weighing 200lbs, and a 1,000lbs boat trailer plus 2500lbs boat (only short trips). So I would say something in the 2-3k lbs range would be best and easiest to tow, something not too wide and as aerodynamic as possible, also a tandem axle trailer would be better since it is more stable. Oh and if you can make sure it has atleast surge brakes. Also to make it easier and ride better (less bounce), you can get a ball mount (the part you plug into the hitch) that allows slight movement, it is called a Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount Cushioned. I am sure you can find them elsewhere, just the first one I found on the web, cant remeber where my Dad got his.

With a proper hitch, including loadlevelers, you should be able to tow as much as 55oo lbs. depending on your axle ratio ( link to trailerlife towing guide). I had an '01 4 dr 4x4 auto andtowed a 4400 lb trailer all over the northeast, a lot of long hills and mountains, with very little problem. You WILL need mirror extensions as the width of our trucks is too narrow to see past the trailers.
