Uneven Rear
 

Hi guys, first time posting here but long time follower. I currently have a 98 Jimmy with 187k on it. I recently replaced the rear leaf packs with a new set from General Spring. I cut the old pack apart and cut down old main into new 2nd leaf on new pack giving me 5 leaf packs. Upper shackle bushings seemed solid with no evidence of dry rot on the rubber so I cleaned them out, greased & installed new upper bolts too. Back end is 1/2-3/4" lower on left side than right. I know it's just a small difference but drives me crazy because it is noticable. Anyone else came across this or any ideas why this could be? THANKS!!

Edit: I should have stated prior to the swap, the back end was equally low but straight.

Why did you add an old leaf in with the new pack? I bet that's where the difference is, one of the old leafs is different (stronger/weaker) than the other.

To give it some additional strength in back. I flattened the original set out pulling a trailer. I have to admit though, I do like the look with additional 1.5" in back, give it a slight rake.

If the difference really bothers you, try taking out the extra leaf. That's a ton of work, but it can be done in a day.

Personally, I think I would leave it how it is lol.

With everything being fresh, I can probably do it in about 4 hours. I guess I didn't think about there being a difference since it sat level prior to the swap.

I mean, that's the only thing I can think it would be. Unless the new springs aren't the same, which I wouldn't think

Try spinning the added left spring leaf around a half a turn, tension could be different from one end to the other, Via the way it rode in the old pack.

OK, figured it out. Left shackle frame bushing was hanging up. Removed the shackles, cleaned inside the bushing, added some bearing grease and installed new bolts on both sides. Evened it right out. Love the rake but not so much the stiffness in back. Reminds me of an old hot rod with air shocks on back..... May remove the extra leaf and install lift shackles after all.....
